The Lusaka High Court has granted MMD President Nevers Mumba an injunction restraining the MMD National Executive Committee from removing him or suspending him from his position.

High Court Judge Chalwe Muchenga has restrained the MMD National Executive Committee from suspending Dr Mumba pending inter-parte hearing in the matter which has been set for Friday November 18th.

Lawyers for both parties are expected to present arguments during hearing on Friday.

Dr Mumba was suspended by the MMD’s National Executive Committee last week for alleged indiscipline.

This followed a power struggle between Dr Mumba and former President Rupiah Banda over the candidature for the MMD in the January 20th presidential by-election.

And Dr. Mumba has hinted that he will launch his campaigns by next week in a Province he will announce soon.

Dr. Mumba has since urged all party structures across the country not to panic but continue mobilizing the party and stand ready to participate in the forthcoming presidential by-election.

The MMD Leader has also warned that any member of the party who will attend tomorrow’s meeting organized by some NEC members in Lusaka will face stiff punishment as the meeting is illegal meeting.

Dr. Mumba has also described as illegal the dissolution of the Copperbelt provincial Committee by MMD National Secretary Muhabi Lungu.

He says such a decision a decision cannot be made without the consent of the party president.

Meanwhile The MMD has with immediate effect dissolved the Copperbelt provincial interim executive committee which has rejected former President Rupiah Banda as the party’s presidential candidate.

Speaking during a closed door media briefing at the party Secretariat today, MMD National Secretary Muhabi Lungu says the party cannot risk having an interim committee that does not listen to the top party leadership.

Mr. Lungu says the party will consider in the next two days constituting a new committee that will help to mobilize the party on the Copperbelt.

Mr. Lungu says to this effect, his office has written a letter of revocation appointment to the interim committee.

And Mr Lungu has announced the appointment of former Solwezi Central Member of Parliament Lucky Mulusa as MMD presidential candidate Rupiah Banda’s campaign spokesperson.

Speaking at the same briefing, Rupiah Banda’s campaign Spokesperson Lucky Mulusa says reasons being advanced that Mr. Banda is too old to contest the forthcoming presidential by-election are aimed at abrogating his constitutional right.

Mr. Mulusa says Zambia has lost international credibility in the recent past and that Mr. Banda has the capacity to clean the country’s dented image.

He adds that it is disappointing that Andrew Banda, Mr. Banda’s son, during a UPND rally insinuated that his father cannot win the by-election citing old.

Mr Mulusa says Mr. Banda is politically experienced.
