Govt committed to addressing GBV – Scott

Acting President Guy Scott says Government is committed to addressing gender based violence in the Country.

Dr. Scott says this is why Government passed the Anti Gender Based Violence Act of 2011.

He says the Act has empowered law enforcement agencies to carry out stiffer penalties on perpetrators of Gender based violence.

DR. Scott was speaking at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka this afternoon during prayers to mark 16 days of Gender Activism.

The Acting President has also called for stronger family values that would strengthen bonds to stop gender based violence.

DR. Scott has since praised the Ministry of Gender for the efforts in addressing gender based violence in the country.

And Gender and Child Development Minister Inonge Wina says there is need for peace to exist especially among the women politicians.

Ms. Wina states that women in the country have continued to be victims of GBV especially in rural areas.

She stressed the need for complimented efforts from various stakeholders to fight GBV.
