Zanaco on the brink of seventh heaven

Zanaco-Samson-Chilupe-300Zanaco are 90 minutes away from their seventh Faz Super League title on Saturday when they visit Red Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on the final day of the 2014 season.

The bankers currently lead the Super League table on 57 points, one ahead of second placed Zesco United and three more than third placed Power Dynamos.

Victory away in their Lusaka derby at eleventh placed Arrows will be enough for Zanaco to bring the league crown back to the capital for the first time since 2012 when they lifted the title.

Zanaco coach Aggrey Chiyangi said he is not getting carried away especially after beating contenders Power Dynamos 1-0 at home last Saturday and in the process also topple Zesco from top spot and relegating them to second place.

“For now, we have to keep our fingers crossed, We have come a long way and were not going to good to lose at home to Power,” Chiyangi said.

“Our next game is not going to be easy but it will be a do or die game.”

Zanaco have an edge over Arrows heading into their final game of the season after defeating the Airmen 2-0 back at Sunset Stadium on June 28.

Meanwhile, Arrows know that a defeat could see them demoted if Kabwe Warriors and Green Buffaloes below them win their respective games.

Arrows, Warriors and Buffaloes are on 35, 34 and 33 points respectively and are all candidates for that final fourth relegation position currently occupied by the latter.

Arrows come into the match on a high after beating 2013 champions Nkana 2-0 away in their penultimate game of the season to enhance their survival hopes.

“Destiny is in our own hands. It is up to us to grab the remaining three points,” Kachinga said.

“We are beating the drop. Arrows is too big a team to go down into Division One.”
