Govt owes farmers K900 million – Simuusa

Agriculture Minister Wilbur Simuusa says government owes farmers who supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) K900 million.

Mr Simuusa has told Parliament government has so far paid out K500 million to farMaize bagsmers for the maize they supplied.

He says balance of K900 million will be paid out between the last week of November and the first week of December.

Mr Simuusa has assured farmers that government is working hard to ensure that all the farmers are paid their dues.

He has since encouraged farmers in the country to get busy with their farming activities so that the country can record another bumper harvest next year.

And Mr Simuusa says all the Compound D fertilizer has been delivered to all the districts in the country and is awaiting collection by farmers.

He says so far 44 percent of farmers have collected the fertilizer.
