MMD Copperbelt Provincial Treasurer Toby Maliti has says the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has breached the party’s constitution by suspending party President Nevers Mumba.
Mr. Maliti states that the decision by NEC to suspend Dr. Mumba to pave way for the adoption of former President Rupiah Banda as the party’s presidential candidate is not right because Dr. Mumba is the rightful presidential candidate owing to the fact that he is party president.
He says only if there was a vacancy in the party presidency would it have been necessary to adopt another individual to be the party’s candidate.
Mr. Maliti has told QFM News that this would have also meant advertising the position to enable interested party members contest for the position.
He has however encouraged Dr. Mumba to remain steadfast and trust in God to see through.
