Reach many- AVAP urges ECZ

eczThe Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has been urged to reach as many people as people whose voters’ cards have either been damaged or defaced during the limited time in which it is expected to conduct the Presidential by-election.

The ECZ has announced that it will not carry out the voter registration exercise for the forthcoming presidential by-election due to limited time, but will instead replace voters cards for people whose cards have been destroyed or defaced.

The Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) has however advised the ECZ to resume the continuous voter registration exercise and updating of the voters register once the Presidential by-election has been held.

AVAP Executive Director Richwell Mulwani says if the voters’ register is regularly updated, the commission will cut down on time it spends on the same process each time elections are due.

Mr. Mulwani has since called upon people to turn up in large numbers and have their voters’ cards replaced in order for them to have a chance of voting in the forthcoming presidential by-election.
