Germany govt increases funding to Zambia

The Germany government has increased its funding to the Zambian government by 48 percent for the period from 2014 to 2016.
This came to light this afternoon during the signing ceremony of the 980 million kwacha developmental cooperation between the Governments of Germany and Zambia in Lusaka today.
Speaking during the signing ceremony on behalf of the Zambian government, Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary Felix Nkulukusa says the Germany Government has agreed to commit to provide a new amount of 121.5 million Euros.
Mr. Nkulukusa says the two governments have today successfully concluded intergovernmental negotiations which took place on the 18th and 19th of November 2014 in Lusaka.
He states that the negotiations focused on ongoing and future programmes of development cooperation and took place in an open, constructive and cordial atmosphere.
Mr Nkulukusa says the funds will be used to continue the already existing development programmes on water and sanitation, good financial governance, civil society participation, supporting the decentralization process and on HIV/AIDS.
Speaking at the same event, Head of Germany Delegation Alois Schneider commended the Zambian government for its outstanding achievements regarding peace, stability, democratic development and impressive economic growth.
Mr. Schneider says Zambia has the potential to become one of the most prosperous nations in Africa if political commitment, good governance and an adequate donor-cooperation go hand in hand.
