Twenty seven die in Mbala-Nakonde traffic accident

Twenty seven people have died while 56 others sustained injuries in a traffic accident that happened along Mbala-Nakonde road in Mbala District yesterday Saturday the 15th of November.

The accident is said to have occurred around 15:00hrs after the Fuso Truck Reg. No. ACX 5816 they were traveling in overturned.

The truck which was loaded with bags of caterpillars had 97 passengers on board who were traveling from Senga Hill where they had gone to collect caterpillars.

Zambia Police spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda has disclosed to Qfm News in a statement that the out of the twenty seven people that have died, ten are children.

Ms. Chanda states the driver of the Fuso Truck, who has not been named, is among the injured people.

She says bodies of the deceased are lying in Mbala hospital mortuary while the injured are receiving treatment in the same hospital.

Ms. Chanda notes that initial investigations have however indicated that the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed.
