ECZ asked to be impartial during Presidential by-election

The Zambia Electoral Alliance (ZEA) has appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to conduct itself in an impartial manner in anything related to holding of the 2014/2015 presidential election.

Speaking during a media briefing this afternoon, ZEA Spokesperson Guess Nyirenda says the alliance expects the ECZ to update the voters roll by removing from the register the names of persons who are deceased dead among other activities as the country prepares for the presidential election next year.

Mr. Nyirenda says the Commission should also conduct civic and voter education during the little time available before the election.

He stresses that the alliance is also appealing to all stakeholders and citizens to ensure that everyone plays their critical role of ensuring that there is peace and tranquility in the country during the campaign period.

Mr. Nyirenda adds that ZEA is also observing and monitoring the political developments in political parties.

Mr Nyirenda has since reminded the Patriotic Front that ignoring their own laid down party rules enshrined in the party constitution in selecting the presidential candidate is recipe for anarchy and violence.
