Cabinet to have met this afternoon

Cabinet was this afternoon expected to meet at State House to consider setting the date for the forthcoming Presidential by-election.

Acting president Guy Scott has also disclosed during a media briefing that he also met PF National Chairperson Inonge Wina this morning who passed on the request by some party members that a Central Committee be held.

He says the Central Committee has since been set for Monday, 17th November after the routine Cabinet meeting.

Dr Scott explains that the Monday Central Committee meeting which he will coordinator together with party Secretary General Edgar Lungu is meant to discuss the practicalities of holding the party’s Convention.

He says this will include discussing the Electoral College that will elect the party’s President and Presidential candidate for the presidential poll.

Dr. Scott was flanked by Ms. Wina, Youth and Sport Minister Chishimba Kambwili, Agriculture Minister Wilbur Simuusa, Kasama PF Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba, Southern Province Deputy Minister Daniel Munkombwe and former Deputy Minister of Agriculture Rodgers Mwewa.

And Ms. Wina has dispelled media reports that Dr. Scott has been expelled from the party.

She says no such action has been taken stating that the media should be factual and stop being malicious.

Speaking earlier, Mr. Kambwili appealed to PF members to work together and remain calm between now and the day the Central Committee meeting will be held.

He says the party needs to elect a party leader who will be accepted by all members.

Mr. Simuusa has also noted the need for party members to realize they need each other now than any other time.
