House of chiefs called upon to join constitution fight

The House of Chiefs has been called upon to take a leading role in pushing for a referendum to adopt a new republican constitution.

Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza has told QFM News in an interview that traditional leaders throughout the country played a pivotal role during the previous constitution making processes.

Mr. Mwanza says chiefs were instrumental in ensuring that people across the country participated in the district, provincial and national conventions on the constitution.

He says it is for this reason that traditional leaders must also join the fight for the speedy enactment of a new republican constitution that will reflect the wishes and aspirations of their subjects.

Mr. Mwanza says it is important that chiefs should their influence and ensure that the country produces a new constitution as soon as possible.
