JCTR calls for continuity in govt policies

The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) says continuity in government policies that support stability will be critical for the country following the demise of President Michael Sata.

JCTR Director Fr Leonard Chiti says any departure from policies that support stability may have adverse effects on the economy in the long term.Fr Chiti

Fr Chiti notes that there is need for government to ensure that economic players are reassured of a certain level of predictability and stability in policy direction despite a perceived turbulent political environment in the country.

He adds that the perceived political uncertainty should be addressed by all players so that investors have confidence in the country, stating that it would not be good for the country to begin losing investors at a time like this one.

Fr Chiti notes that in the recent past, the Zambian economy has been subjected to policy reversals and uncertainties each time there is a change in the leadership.
