Demand for new constitution before 2016 still stands – Chiti

Fr ChitiThe Grand Coalition championing the enactment of a people driven Constitution says the demand for the enactment of a new constitution before 2016 still stands.

This is in view of the forthcoming Presidential election expected in January 2015 following the death of President Michael Sata.

Grand Coalition Chairperson Leonard Chiti has told Qfm News by telephone that the coalition would in fact like to have the 2015 presidential election held under a new people driven constitution.

Father Chiti says Zambian people have already made it clear in the final draft constitution that they would like a President who is voted in by a majority vote as provided for under the 50+1 clause.

He adds that had the new constitution been enacted by now with the provision of the Vice President Running mate, the confusion that has rocked the Patriotic Front (PF) government following the death of President Sata would have been averted.

Father Chiti has since disclosed that the Grand Coalition will hold a media briefing on 12th November a day after the burial of the late President during which it will avail further details on its plans to have a new constitution enacted.
