We did not attempt to arrest Edgar – ZP

The Zambia Police has dismissed as false a news story article published in today’s edition of the Daily Nation newspaper under the headline “Police attempt to arrest Edgar”.

The article has insinuated that police officers attempted to arrest Defence and Justice Minister Edgar Lungu after the Police Command received an order from Acting Republican President Guy Scott on Monday night.

In a statement to Qfm News, Police Acting Spokesperson Esther Mwaata-Katongo has stated that the day the newspaper has alleged Dr. Scott made the order to arrest Mr.Lungu, the Zambia Police was in fact on the ground quelling protests that had rocked some parts of Lusaka.

Ms. Katongo says Police will however invite Patriotic Front Director of Media and Publicity Brian Hapunda to help the Police with information that would enable it investigate the origin of this information as has been published by the tabloid newspaper.

She says the Zambia Police is currently pre-occupied with its duty of maintaining Law and order.
