Scott appoints Chilangwa as PF SG, as confusion rocks ruling party

Confusion has rocked the ruling Patriotic Front following the decision by Acting Republican President and PF President Guy Scott’s decision to relieve Edgar Lungu as PF Secretary General.

As soon as news filtered through last night of Mr Lungu’s dismissal and the appointment of Chipili Member of Parliament Davies Mwila as his successor, some Central Committee members in the company of Mr Mwila went to ZNBC were Mr Mwila turned down his appointment.

In turning down his appointment Mr Mwila stressed that he was still mourning President Sata whom he worked with very closely.

And in an interview with QFM News last evening Acting President Guy Scott promised to give an interview on the issue this morning.

And PF National youth Chairperson Chishimba Kambwili has warned that the decision by Dr Scott to fire Mr Lungu has the potential cause anarchy in the country.

Mr Kambwili says if a single life is lost as a result of Dr Scott’s decision, the blood will be on his head.

He disclosed that he had scheduled a meeting with Dr Scott this morning to try and resolve the issue.
Meanwhile Dr Scott has appointed Kawambwa Member of Parliament Nickson Chilangwa as PF Secretary General following the decision by Mr Mwila to turn down the appointment.

Mr Chilangwa is home affairs deputy Minister.

Meanwhile Mr. Lungu has told Qfm News in a statement dated 3rd November 2014 delivered by PF Director for Media and Publicity Brian Hapunda, that he has learnt with deep regret the illegal and provocative action by Dr. Scott to dismiss him as PF Secretary General.

Mr. Lungu has stated that his alleged sacking has no foundation or support of the ruling party’s constitution.

He adds that most importantly, Dr. Scott has insulted the ruling party’s culture and the people of Zambia by allegedly constantly engaging himself in matters that allegedly undermine the dignity, honor and respect of the funeral of the late President Sata.

Mr.Lungu says he is also aware of alleged maneuvers to reinstate former Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba in the position of PF Secretary General.

He adds that the maneuvering is also allegedly meant to undermine the decision late President Sata made on the 28th of August 2014 to dismiss Mr Kabimba.

The Defence and Justice Minister has further states that this is also an attempt to usurp state powers by a group now commonly known as the “cartel”.

He further argues that for Dr. Scott to illegally assume the office of party president and to perform such functions therein in the absence of the harmonization of the party constitution is a promotion of disharmony.

In his argument, Mr. Lungu has also referred to Article 53 and 54 of the ruling PF’s constitution besides calling for an emergency Central Committee meeting scheduled for today Tuesday the 4th of November 2014 at 09:00hrs in Lusaka.

Among the items on the agenda Mr.Lungu has listed include his purported dismissal letter as well as resolving matters relating to articles 53 and 54 of the ruling PF constitution.

Mr. Lungu has since warned the ruling party members including Dr. Scott to act with restraint as the nation mourns the late President Sata stating that the late Head of State deserves to be mourned with utmost dignity, peace and respect.
