UPND refutes media reports of joining ‘cartel’

The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has distanced itself from reports suggesting that it is in talks with what is termed as the cartel group to enter into a deal for the January 2015 presidential by-elections.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma has told QFM News in an interview that such suggestions are aimed at putting the name of the party in disrepute.

Mr. Kakoma says the UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema has never at any time engaged in talks with the people linked on the possibility of joining forces in the coming presidential election.

He states that it is strange that some people are spreading such falsehoods about the opposition leader.

Mr Kakoma says many people are bringing suggestions on how best the UPND can win the coming presidential by-elections and that the party is thoroughly studying them.

Mr. Kakoma adds that the individuals mentioned by some reports as engaging the UPND have not approached the party.
