Black Friday to put on hold to mourn Sata

The consortium of civil society organizations championing the Black Friday campaign has suspended its countrywide advocacy activities to join the rest of the country in mourning late President Michael Sata.

Every Friday of the week Black Friday campaigners, who are also part of the Grand Coalition on the Demand for the People Driven constitution, are clad in black in protest against among other things government’s lifting of subsidies on fuel and maize, delayed enactment of the country’s new constitution and the alleged harsh social conditions in the country.

Black Friday Spokesperson Guess Nyirenda says the suspension of the activities will only last for the period during which the country is mourning the late republican President.

Mr. Nyirenda has disclosed to Qfm News that once the late President is put to rest on the 11th of November, the Black Friday consortium will resume its activities with full throttle.

He has also noted that the fact that members of the consortium form part of the Grand Coalition on the constitution, it should not be assumed that operations of the Black Friday campaigns have ceased or have been supped up by the Grand Coalition.

And Mr. Nyirenda has cautioned that the ruling Patriotic Front will continued to be haunted by divisions within itself until it puts its house in order and ensures that its rules and regulations are followed by all to the latter.

He points out that protests against acting President Guy Scott witnessed on Thursday are likely to continue even after President Sata has been put to rest.
