UK PM,Queen Elizabeth mourn Sata

British Prime Minister, David Cameron, has expressed his condolences to Acting President Guy Scott on the death of President Michael Chilufya Sata.

In a letter to Dr Scott, Mr Cameron says he is writing to express his condolences and those of the British Government to the government and Zambian people on the death of President Sata.

Mr Cameron says he was deeply saddened to hear of the President’s passing.

He says President Sata played a commanding role in the public life of Zambia for over two decades, and that his loss will be sorely felt in Zambia and beyond.

Mr Cameron says he had the privilege of meeting the President on the occasion of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, and that it was clear to him from their conversation that the President’s in-depth knowledge of the United Kingdom, drawn from his years living and working there, had helped further strengthen the already strong links between the two countries.

The UK Prime Minister says while he is aware that the Zambian Government is receiving support from the High Commission in Lusaka and from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London, there should be no hesitation to ask if there is anything further that his office or the Government can do to assist in the coming days.

Meanwhile Queen Elizabeth is saddened at the death of President Michael Sata.

In her message of condolences to acting President Guy Scott, Queen Elizabeth says it is with sadness that she learnt of the President’s death.

She says the passing of President Sata will be felt both in Zambia and across southern Africa.

Queen Elizabeth has since on behalf of the United Kingdom, Prince Philip and on her own behalf conveyed deepest sympathy to the family of President Sata and the people of Zambia at this sad time.
