Maintain peace, order in mourning Sata – Libongani appeals to Zambians

Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani has appealed to members of the general public to maintain peace and order as the country mourns President Michael Sata.

In a statement issued to Qfm News, Ms. Libongani is also calling on all Zambians to mourn the country’s departed President in unity and with dignity.

Ms. Libongani states that peace can only be preserved by avoiding any conduct that might lead to the collapse of Law and order.

She says this means that people in the country should also avoid all speeches of hurt that may lead to the disturbance of peace and unity during and after the mourning period.

Ms. Libongani notes that Zambia has enjoyed peace for the last 50 years and that people in the country should play a role in preserving it.

She says anyone behaving in a manner that may lead to the breach of Law and order should be reported to Law enforcement agencies without delay.

Ms Libongani says the regulations for public gatherings have not changed and that Police will therefore enforce public order during this period of national mourning to ensure that every citizen enjoys their due rights.

The Inspector General of Police says her command has also intensified foot and motorized patrols countrywide to ensure that law and order is maintained during the period of mourning.

She has also advised motorists to observe traffic regulations in order to avoid unnecessary accidents.
