Parliament adjourns indefinitely on Sata’s demise

Parliament was this afternoon forced to adjourn indefinitely following the death of President Michael Sata who died in London last night.
Parliamentary proceedings barely lasted five minutes.
When the house convened this afternoon, Deputy Speaker of the national Assembly Mukondo Lungu requested Members of Parliament observe a minute of silence in honor of the memory of the late President before announcing the adjournment of the house until further notice.
Mr Lungu said the suspension of Parliamentary business was to allow preparations for the State funeral in view of President Sata’s death.
He said Members of Parliament will be informed about the resumption of the house’s sitting at a later date.
Parliament has been debating the 2015 national budget presented by Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda on 10th October, 2014.
