Zambia has not achieved much – EAZ

The Economic Association of Zambia (EAZ) says Zambia has not achieved much in economic terms as was supposed to be attained in the last 50 years of independence.

EAZ president Isaac Ngoma notes that the country is still experiencing high poverty levels, has poor infrastructure and that the level of economic ownership by indigenous Zambians is still very low.

Mr. Ngoma has told Qfm News by telephone that this means that while Zambia has attained political freedom, it is miles away from attaining economic freedom.

He says if he has to personally rate Zambia’s performance since independence, he would put the country at the level of being below par because 50 years is a long period of time in which Zambians should have done better.

The EAZ president says a lot more therefore needs to be done in many areas of the economy.

Mr Ngoma says these areas include economic empowerment, infrastructure development, and general poverty reduction.

Mr. Ngoma adds that he personally thinks that the country further needs to work towards a more inclusive economic management system.
