Cordeiro hails Zambia’s economic growth

Brazil’s under-Secretary General for Africa and the Middle-East at the Ministry of External Relations, Ambassador Paulo Cordeiro has hailed as impressive Zambia’s economic growth rates.

And Zambia’s Ambassador to Brazil Cynthia Jangulo says she is hopeful that the Brazilian Congress would ratify the remaining four, from the eight bilateral agreements and Memorandum of Understanding, which were signed to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

Speaking during the 50th Jubilee celebrations at the Chancery, Ambassador Cordeiro said he had heard about Zambia’s growth figures.

Ambassador Jangulo had earlier alluded to Zambia’s consecutive growth rates since the turn of the century, particularly in the last five years where GDP has hit 7.6 percent in 2010, 6.8, 7.3, 6.5 in 2011, 2012, 2013 respectively, and is expected to grow over 7 percent in 2014.

Ambassador Cordeiro stressed that in a scenario in which the global crisis continued to affect nations of the Northern Hemisphere, Zambia was managing to reduce on foreign dependency with continued economic growth in rates superior to the world average.

He said Zambia reached 50 years with its Independence being recognized by solid democratic and economic fundamentals, adding that the country’s stability and evolution in decision-making since 1964 was an example for all.

Ambassador Cordeiro said it was an honour for Brazil to have been chosen as the base for Zambia’s first diplomatic representation in Latin America, saying the opening up of the two countries respective embassies in 2006 and 2007 led relations to a new level.

This is contained in a statement issued by First Secretary for Press at Zambia’s embassy to Brazil Patson Chilemba.
