SACCORD hopes for impetus on constitution

Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) says the release of the final draft constitution should build the momentum towards the enactment of the new constitution.

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says his organization is happy that the final draft constitution has been finally released by government.

Mr. Cheembe says though SACCORD would have wanted the draft to be released much earlier, it is still happy that the document has finally been released.

Mr Cheembe says SACCORD now hopes that government will now table a clear roadmap for enacting the new constitution before the 2016 general elections.

He states that this is in order to enable the nation know how the constitution making process will proceed further following the release of the final draft constitution.

Mr Cheembe is also hopeful that government will continue to engage stakeholders in the constitution making process.

Government last week finally released the final draft constitution through Parliament.
