Lungu commended for defying opposition calls to boycott Jubilee

Acting President Edgar Lungu has commended Zambians for defying calls by some members of the opposition to boycott the jubilee celebrations.

Mr Lungu who is Justice and Defence Minister says government is grateful to the people of Zambia for the massive turnout during the celebrations to mark Zambia’s golden Jubilee which fell last Friday, 24th October.

He says calls by some members of the opposition on Zambians to boycott or to wear black were disloyal and detriment of the peace, and unity of Zambia.

Mr Lungu however thanked leaders of the opposition among them MMD President Nevers Mumba,FDD President Edith Nawakwi and NAREP President Elias Chipimo for taking time to join in commemorating the country’s 50th independence anniversary.

He says the Zambians demonstrated that they can rise above partisan interests, and focus on issues that unite them as a people.

Mr Lungu states that Zambians demonstrated commitment to patriotism and a high sense of nationalism by participating in all golden jubilee activities and celebrations.

The acting President has also thanked all representatives of countries invited and all invited guests came from the region and graced the occasion.
