Farmers panic after receiving some rains

Most of the districts in Northern Province received some rains which started on Friday 17th October through to Sunday 19th October, 2014.

A snap survey conducted by the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) staff in various districts found farmers panicking wanting to start planting their seeds.

However, farmers have been advised by field staff from both the Ministry Agriculture and Livestock, and ZNFU not to rush into planting as there are indications that there will be dry spell for two to three weeks after Independence Day.

This is according to information obtained from the Metrological Department.

Generally, most farmers have prepared their fields despite not having money to buy seeds and fertilizers as they have not been paid by FRA for the maize they supplied to the Agency.
