Govt advised to monitor disbursement of funds ahead of Social Cash Transfer Scheme roll out

Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has advised government effectively monitors the disbursement of funds as it rolls out the Social Cash Transfer Scheme to all parts of the country.

Community Development, Mother and Child Health Deputy Minister Ingrid Mphande has said government will in 2016 roll out the Social Cash Transfer Scheme to all parts of the country from the current 50 districts.

CSPR Executive Director Mwila Mulumbi has told QFM News in a telephone interview that the pronouncement by government to scale up the scheme to all parts of the country is welcome.

Ms Mulumbi says such initiatives will no doubt have a positive impact on reducing the high levels of poverty.

Ms Mulumbi states that her organization and other relevant stakeholders have been advocating for the scaling up of the social cash transfer scheme and that government has done well to heed to the calls.

She says government on the other hand should ensure that it formulates stronger mechanisms of protecting the funds from fraud by ensuring that only deserving people access the funds.
