SACCORD calls for give, take wage freeze dialogue

The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has called for a give and take dialogue over the public service wage freeze between government and the labor unions.

Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says while this dialogue takes place government should show respect for the views of the labor unions to avoid bringing productivity of the country’s economy to a standstill.

Mr. Cheembe has told Qfm News by telephone that his organization is thus reminding government to be wary that if it takes a position it is not willing to change but at the same time call for dialogue it will become discontenting to labor unions.

He says his organization hopes that government will therefore give an ear to the view of the labor unions representing the civil service at the time that dialogue on the wage freeze is being engaged.

Mr. Cheembe notes that SACCORD will particularly find it unfortunate if government will at this end continue with the mentality of not wanting to give in the negotiation of other stakeholders given the warning that the labor unions have made if the wage freeze is further maintained.
