Govt lacks seriousness to deliver constitution – Oasis Forum

The Oasis Forum says the K29 million allocated to constitution making process in the 2015 national budget is a clear indication of government’s lack of seriousness to deliver a new constitution before 2016.

Forum Chairperson Suzanne Matale says her organization is now convinced that the Patriotic Front government is using delaying tactics on the delivery of the country’s constitution before the 2016 general elections.

Reverend Matale, who is also Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) Secretary General, says the Oasis Forum however strongly believes that the issue of enacting the new constitution still remains top priority.

She has told QFM News in an interview that the challenges the country has been grappling with are as a result of a defunct constitution which the country is currently using.

Reverend Matale says the need for a new constitution for the country is obvious.

Reverend Matale says it is on this basis that the Oasis Forum has not lost hope on the enactment of a new constitution, stating that without a new constitution, the country will continue wallowing in poverty, mediocrity and hopelessness for the people.
