Chipimo challenges govt to come clean on fuel subsidy

National Restoration Party (NAREP) President Elias Chipimo Junior has challenged government to come clean over the reduction in the international oil prices when Zambians are not feeling the benefits of that reduction.

Mr Chipimo has told QFM News that the government should come clean and state categorically whether or not it has actually removed the subsidy on fuel importations and the pump price.

He explains that if the subsidy has been removed, Zambians would by now be experiencing a reduction in the price of fuel at the pump.

Mr Chipimo notes that Zambians are not getting any benefit from the 20 percent decline in oil prices on the international market over the last six months, wondering why this is so when government announced that it had removed the subsidy on fuel.

And Mr Chipimo has observed that the Patriotic Front government has not exhibited any transparency in how they are utilizing the money they are borrowing which is creating a deficit for the country.

He says there is need to see to it that such money is used in a way that benefits the Zambian people through proper planning and accountability.

Mr Chipimo states that it does not matter how many roads are built, but that building roads four times the amount of money which should be used means a waste of resources and creation of bigger problems for the population.

He cites the construction of the Chirundu road which he says is a sensible project, but that it was done on a single sourcing without a road design being commissioned, meaning that the contractor was paid money to begin works before road designs were concluded, thereby costing government more than should have been incurred.
