China still major development partner – Ngwenya

Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Secretary General Sindiso Ngwenya has observed that China still remains a major development partner on a win-win basis to COMESA member countries and Africa in general.

Mr. Sindiso says this partnership has been demonstrated through many ways including the 20 million dollars of credit line to African countries which China provided in 2012 at the Forum for China Africa Cooperation (FOCA) meeting assisting in among other sectors Agriculture and infrastructure development.

He says this is why COMESA is confident that through its engagement with the EXIMBANK of China the support will be further provided for the construction of the COMESA Head Office especially that a mission has already been planned for November this year to go to Beijing to complete the negotiations.

Mr. Sindiso was speaking this morning when he received credentials from Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming who is also the new special representative of China to COMESA.

He says his team at the secretariat will work with Mr. Youming in promoting win-win cooperation in the areas of Agriculture, Investment and Trade, Science and Technology, and infrastructure development.

And speaking shortly after presenting his credentials, Mr. Youming stated that China stands ready to help in the reviving the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA).

Mr. Youming says China values the railway project because it is a symbol of friendship between China and Africa.

He says the railway road project is not only important for economical and social development for Zambia and Tanzania, but is also the largest single foreign-aid project undertaken by China.
