ZCID assesses ruling party-opposition relationship

The Zambia Center for Inter-Party Dialogue (ZCID) has described the relationship between the ruling PF and the opposition in the past three years as unpleasant.

ZCID Executive Director Horrance Chilando has told QFM News in a telephone interview that the people of Zambia have witnessed the worst interparty rivalry in the past three years.

Mr. Chilando says the conflict resulting from the interparty rivalry is not progressive and not based on principle.

Mr. Chilando notes that there has been rising tension in the recent past where the opposition has cried foul that they are not allowed to hold public meetings in the name of not adhering to the provisions of the Public Order Act, which he says has not helped the opposition.

And when asked what role the center played in reconciling political parties, Mr. Chilando says the institution faced numerous challenges which included inadequate funding.

He says it was difficult for the center to organize a round table meeting for the political parties to reach a consensus on certain issues.

Mr Chilando says it is for this reason that the ruling and opposition parties should work on a common goal of promoting peace and unity in the country.

Meanwhile, Presence of God Ministries overseer Apostle Christopher Kunda has told QFM News in a separate interview that the church will continue praying for politicians for them to lead by example in promoting peace.

Apostle Kunda says the church will also continue praying that both the ruling and opposition parties come to understand each other and iron out their differences.
