ZAMRA anticipates Medicines and Allied Substances Act

The Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) says once the Medicines and Allied Substances Act is fully implemented, it will help in effectively monitoring the sale of drugs across the country.

ZAMRA Public Relations Officer Ludovic Mwape has told QFM News in an interview that once the Act is in full force, it will help the authority to provide for the registration and regulation of pharmacies, drugs stores and agro veterinary shops.

Mr. Mwape says concerns that the authority will have difficulties in monitoring the sale of drugs in newly created districts should not worry the people, stating that all the districts will be covered once the Act is implemented.

Mr. Mwape explains that the Act will also pave way for regulation of the manufacturer, importation, exportation, distribution, storage, possession, supply, advertisement and sale of medicines and allied substances.

He says currently the authority is unable to monitor the sale of drugs in all parts of the country but that with the new structure that is coming, the authority will be mandated to do so.
