Govt lacks political-will to enact Access to Information Bill -ZEC

The Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) says it is concerned about the way government has continued to delay the enactment of the Access to Information Bill into law.

ZEC Secretary General Cleophas Lungu says his organization is of the view that the issue of enacting the Access to Information Bill into law has been outstanding for a long time through successive regimes.

Father Lungu says this is clearly as a result of lack of political will.

He notes that passing this bill in the current siting of Parliament can also be one of the best gifts that the Patriotic Front government can give to the media fraternity.

Father Lungu has however advised be objective, accurately and truthfully in their reporting.

He says both the public and private media should uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics for the benefit of the country.
