Now is opportunity to release final draft constitution – Msoni

Opposition All People’s Congress Party (APC) president Nason Msoni says there will be no opportunity time for the Patriotic Front government to release the final draft constitution now before the country’s independence jubilee.

Mr. Msoni says his party will not attend the Zambia’s 50th independence celebration which is to be held later this month if government does not release the final draft constitution.

He says without the final draft constitution he does see a reason why anyone would want to celebrate the independence jubilee notwithstanding the fact that so much money has already being spent on drafting this national document.

Mr. Msoni further notes that his party does not want to see a situation where, after inviting people to attend the jubilee celebration, the Head of State himself does not show up as it happened during the African Freedom day commemorations on the 25th of May this year.

He says it will be really disappointing to people if President Michael Sata himself does not attend the country’s most important occasion.

The ACP president says it is therefore important that people are assured in advance that when they attend the jubilee celebration their republic president too will be in attendance.

But the president’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations George Chellah has told Qfm news in a separate phone interview that such position take by Mr. Msoni does not warrant a comment from State House.

Mr. Chellah says there are more important matters that should be discussed instead of such requests of an assurance on whether the Head of State will attend the Jubilee celebrations or not.

He says State House cannot be a victim of a wild goose chase as Mr. Msoni is trying to do.
