Airtel re-runs media Excellence awards

Airtel Networks Zambia plc has decided to re-run the media Excellence Awards competition due to poor entries submitted.

The completion which was launched on 28th February, 2014 and required journalists to submit stories which have changed people’s lives with the help Airtel only had 21 entries in total.

Addressing journalists who had submitted stories for the competition this morning, Veteran Journalist and trainer Edem Djokote says it was difficult for the judges to choose a winner from the submitted entries because of the quality.

Mr. Djokote who is among the judges that include Maureen Nkandu from NEPAD South Africa and University of Zambia Historian, Professor Bizeck Phiri says out of the 21 entries submitted, 10 were disqualified on grounds of being irrelevant to the subject matter.

He explains that the judges also felt that based on the balance of probabilities there was no single entrant who will make a good ambassador to represent Zambia’s journalistic excellence on the international stage.

Mr. Djokote says it is in this regard that the judges in collaboration with Airtel Zambia will soon organize a media training to help guide the journalists before they can make new story submissions for the re-run competition.

And Airtel Zambia Public Relations officer Lisa Mulozi has stressed the need for journalists to put in their best efforts in gathering good stories.

Ms. Mulozi has also encouraged all participants not to feel discouraged but do the best they can and show that they have the talent.
