ACC arrests former kabwe council Director

The Anti-Corruption Commission in Kabwe has arrested a former Director of Engineering Services at Kabwe Municipal Council for abuse of authority of office.

Commission Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono says Cosmas Mpundu who was arrested yesterday, and charged with one count of abuse of authority of office contrary to section 99(1) of the penal code Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence being that on dates unknown but between the 1st day of October 2010 and 31st day of October 2010 at Kabwe in the Kabwe District of the Central Province of the Republic of Zambia , Cosmas Mpundu being a person employed in the public service namely, Director of Engineering Services at Kabwe Municipal Council did abuse the authority of his office in the manner he facilitated the engagement of William Mhango to survey land on the behalf of Kabwe Municipal Council without following laid down Public Procurement procedure, a matter or transaction that concerned Kabwe Municipal Council, a Public Body.

Mpundu is jointly charged with Livingstone Town Clerk Vivian Chiwila Chikoti, who was arrested in Livingstone last week.

Both Chikoti and Mpundu had been employees of the Kabwe Municipal Council at the time of the commission of the offence.

The duo appeared before the Kabwe Subordinate court today.
