Superior Milling in huge maize deal with small scale farmers

Superior Milling Company Limited has procured 40, 000 metric tons of maize from small scale famers throughout the country during this maize marketing season.

And the company has indicated that it will buy an additional 40, 000 metric tons of maize from small scale farmers.

Speaking during the official opening of the 37th retail depot in Chirundu District today, Superior Milling Company Managing Director, Peter Cottan, says farmers should not panic once government through the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) closes its maize marketing season on 7th October.

Mr. Cottan says millers are there to ensure that farmers sale their produce to millers at a reasonable and agreed price.

He says his company has been buying maize from farmers at K70 per bag, the same price the FRA is has been buying maize and that they will continue to buy maize throughout the year.

Mr Cottan says it is for this reason that farmers across the country should not panic as to where they will sale their maize after FRA stops.

Speaking at the same event, Chirundu District Commissioner, Peggy Nyirenda says the opening up of the Superior Milling retail depot in the district will help to bring down the escalating mealie meal prices in the area.

And former Chirundu District Commissioner Maxwell Siamalima appealed to milling companies to consider opening up a mealie meal plant in the area and employ youths in the area.
