Govt says it has made strides in meeting MDGs on sanitation

Government says it has made great strides in meeting the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) on sanitation.

Local Government and Housing Deputy Minister, Nicolas Banda says government alone could not have achieved tangible results in the sanitation sector without the partnership of the stakeholders and the donor community.

Mr. Banda says government remains concerned about the people who do not have access to improved sanitation because their lives are at risk.

He says it is for this reason that people should take it upon themselves and ensure that they adhere to improved sanitation principles.

He adds that by doing so,the people will not just be doing justice to themselves but to the nation at large.

Mr. Banda says government is pleased with the support and efforts that have been exhibited by the donor community and relevant stakeholders in ensuring that the lives of the people more especially in rural areas are enhanced.

Mr Band has also hailed traditional leaders who he says been instrumental to the improvement of the sanitation sector.
