UTH still facing challenges

The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) has continued to face challenges in the provision of health care.

Speaking during a media orientation workshop today, UTH Public Relations.

Officer Mwenya Mulenga says the increase in the disease burden is one such challenge facing the hospital.

Mr Mulenga explains that the increase in the disease burden has also forced the hospital to resort to giving patients future appointments.

He notes that while there has been an increase in the number of people getting sick, the hospital’s infrastructure has remained the same, resulting in its failure to cope many cases of patients.

Mr Mulenga adds that health centres referring even simple cases to UTH have also contributed to congestion at the hospital.

He says only complicated cases that cannot be handled clinics are supposed to be referred to the University Teaching Hospital.

Mr Mulenga further states that the hospital is working towards introducing afternoon clinics in order to increase the number of patients being seen in a day.
