RDA inks Chingola road works deal

The Road Development Agency (RDA) has today signed two contracts for the rehabilitation of 23.4Km of urban road in Chingola on the Copperbelt and the periodic maintenance of 151.8 Km of the Solwezi – Mwinilunga road at a total cost of K228 million.

Speaking during the signing ceremony at the RDA offices in Lusaka this morning, RDA Chief Executive Officer, Bernard Chiwala says Chingola has had three contractors work on the roads who have all failed to do quality works.

Mr. Chiwala says Asphalt Worx Limited has been appointed to complete the rehabilitation of selected urban roads in Chingola at a contract sum of K68 million following the termination of the contract that was awarded to Mivami Construction Company.

He explains that Asphalt Worx Limited will complete all outstanding works on the said project which includes: construction of pavement layers, construction of drainage structures, provision of road markings and signage.

Mr. Chiwala further states that the contract will be executed within 8 months from the date of signing and a total of fifteen selected urban roads are earmarked for rehabilitation under the same project.

He adds that the RDA has also awarded a contract for the periodic maintenance of 151.8km of the Solwezi-Mwinilunga road in North Western Province, to Inyatsi Roads Limited at a contract sum of K159 million.

Speaking at the same event, Chingola Member of Parliament Joseph Katema says he expects nothing from the contractor but quality works.

Mr Katema who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister reminded the contractor not follow in the bad steps of previous contractors.

And the two contractors have pledged to endeavor to do the best works on their respective projects.

  1. I Hope this road deal works. All road works have failed in our town.We are not regarded as citizens of this country.Else where on the Copperbelt these projects run smoothly.Chingola people are not properly represented politically.Even this 23.4km stretch is not enough. Chingola has a small road network. If they cover 60 km,the whole town will have good roads.
So please prompt these contractor who was subcontracted by Mivami to start works now before the rains start. They will be forced to go on a break untill March.
