Zambia recording macroeconomic stability – Kabanshi

Minister of Community Development, Mother and Child Health, Emerine Kabanshi says the country through the leadership of President Michael Sata has continued to record impressive macroeconomic stability and growth over the last three years.

Ms. Kabanshi says this is because of the many policies that government has put in place especially those aimed at addressing the plight of the poor and vulnerable who are the majority in the society.

Ms. Kabanshi notes that the Patriotic Front’s manifesto has also prioritized a number of programs such as the social cash transfer and women empowerment aimed at reducing poverty levels among the poor and vulnerable groups of the society.

She adds that in a country that is endowed with so many natural resources, it is wrong for the majority of people to continue living in poverty citing that local people are suppose to feel the impact of the their country’s natural resources.

Ms. Kabanshi explains that the sixth revised national development plan highlights the critical need for social protection for Zambia’s most vulnerable population.

She further points out that the poverty level in Zambia stands at 61% while the HIV prevalence rate is at 14% among adults aged 15 to 49 with 16% women infected compared to 12% of men.
