Grand Coalition deny betraying people

The Grand Coalition on the Demand for the People Driven Constitution says people in the country should not feel betrayed that they have not been availed with the details of the recent meeting it had on the constitution with the Justice Minister Edgar Lungu.

Coalition chairperson Leonard Chiti says this is because the meeting was only exploratory talks.

Father Chiti who is also Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) Director says in the said meeting there were some questions that were raised that needed further exploration and reflection.

He has told Qfm news that this is why the Coalition had scheduled this weakened to consider the questions that the Justice Minister had raised in the meeting and that by the end of Sunday today the 21st of September the Coalition will conclude its exercise.

Father Chiti says once the Coalition concludes its exercise it will inform government about its completion of its part of the bargain in anticipation that government too will have considered the issues that the Coalition had presented to the Justice Minister for government to explore and reflect upon.

He says it if for this reason that people should not feel betrayed that contents of the meeting on the constitution were not disclosed to them as the Coalition is assuring the people that it is currently examining the issues that government has put before it.

Father Chiti says it was the thought of the Coalition not to disclose the content of the said meeting it held with the Justice Minister as doing so was only going to cause more confusion.

He says the issues that were raised for each party of the bargain to look at, pertains to the Coalition’s perceptions of how to go about the constitution making process which he says has convergences and divergences.

Father Chiti notes that it is thus these divergences that are being worked upon to see whether government and the Coalition can arrive at a common position.

He says this means that once both parties complete their home works another meeting will have to be held and hopefully thereafter people in the country will be communicated to.
