CCPC denies having a hand in goods & services’ price settings

Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) Public Relations Officer Hanford Chaaba has emphasized that the commission is not responsible for setting prices of goods and services as perceived by many Zambians.

Mr. Chaaba’s comment comes after some members of the public labeled the commission a toothless monitoring and regulatory body that has failed to protect consumers from unfair pricing and underweight products.

Mr. Chaaba states that the commission only intervenes in sectors dominated by one player as an effective means of protecting consumers from unfair trade practices.

He says the commission seeks to increase public awareness as a deliberate policy meant to encourage consumers to generate complaints once unfair trade practices are noticed.

Mr. Chaaba has urged the public to always demand for receipts as it will help them to seek guidance from relevant authorities.
