PAZA calls Times of Zambia bailout

The Press Association of Zambia (PAZA) has observed that changing media heads every year at the Times of Zambia is not the solution to the challenges the institution is facing.

PAZA Executive Secretary Patson Phiri has told QFM News that the association is very much disappointment that the Times of Zambia board has refused to renew the contract of Managing Director Godfrey Malama.

Mr. Phiri says PAZA believes it was very difficult for Mr. Malama to run the company when the media institution had no capital injection from government.

Mr. Phiri points out that workers at the Times of Zambia are still owed salaries in arrears for months because the company is not financially stable.

He says the decision by the board not to renew Mr. Malama’s contract is unfortunate and regrettable.

Mr. Phiri, who is also Southern African Editors Forum Zambia Chapter Executive Secretary, says the only solution to put an end to the challenges at Times of Zambia is for government to bailout the company.
