Improved water infrastructure underway

Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water Development Acting Human Resource Administration Director, Movens Nswana says the ministry has embarked on a project to improve water infrastructure in order to improve water supply in all the 10 provinces of the country.

Speaking during the handover of 20 vehicles in Lusaka today purchased with the support from the World Bank, Mr. Nswana says the vehicles will facilitate the implementation of the project to improve water supply and will help address the water infrastructure deficit which has been there for some time.

Mr. Nswana says the project will also provide institutional capacity for the ministry to be able to implement water development and management programs effectively and efficiently as well as ensure management of international water.

He adds that at the end of the project, the ministry will be able to construct 22 small and medium dams country wide, rehabilitate 22 existing small dams and will also upgrade 12 existing dams with irrigation facilities to ensure productive use of water.

Mr.Nswana states that the project is expected to run from 2014 to 2018 at a total cost of 50 million dollars.
