Lungu castigates tribalism peddlers

Justice Minister and Patriotic Front Secretary General, Edgar Lungu has taken a swipe on politicians with a tendency of playing the tribal cards whenever they fall out of favour with the appointing authority.

Reacting to allegations of tribalism and corruption being peddled against the ruling party following the dismissal of Wynter Kabimba as Justice Minister and PF Secretary General, Mr Lungu challenged those alleging corruption in the ruling party to report to the Anti Corruption Commission.

Mr Lungu who is also Defence Minister wonders why allegations of tribalism and corruption against the ruling party have only surfaced following the dismissal of Mr Kabimba.

He says the ruling Patriotic Front is not a tribal party, adding that there is no tribalism in Zambia as some people are claiming.

Mr Lungu expresses sadness that politicians always want to blame tribalism whenever they have been dismissed by the appointing authority in order to win sympathy from their tribesmen and Zambians in general.

He adds that the same politicians never care about their tribesmen when enjoying the fruits of their public offices, but only want to win the sympathy of their tribesmen when their appointments have been revoked.

Meanwhile Mr Lungu says he will in the next two weeks give a detailed roadmap on the enactment of the new republican constitution.

The Justice Minister however says Part Three of the constitution which requires the holding of a referendum remains a big challenge considering the huge amount of resources required to hold a referendum.

He adds that Cabinet will decide on the release of the final draft constitution.

Mr Lungu was speaking last evening when he featured on ZNBC’s Sunday Interview monitored by QFM News.
