ZESCO and Nkana Win Government Praise

Government has congratulated Nkana and Zesco football clubs on their victories in their respective continental tournaments which saw them both progress to the next round.

Nkana progressed to the pre-group stage of the CAF Champions league after beating their Ugandan opponents away, while ZESCO progressed to the second round of the Confederation cup after overcoming Mozambican opposition.

Chief Government Spokesperson Mwansa Kapeya says the victories, once again, confirm Zambia’s credentials as a football power house in the region, the continent and the world at large.

Kapeya says this is also a sign that Government’s ongoing investment in the sports sector is yielding desired results.

He adds that the players, coaching bench as well as sponsors at the two clubs deserve commendation for the well deserved victories.

Kapeya states that Zambians are confident that the two Copperbelt based soccer giants have the necessary technical capacity, determination and discipline to go all the way to the finals of their respective competitions.

He adds that the advancement of the two clubs to next round of their respective competitions is a source of great joy and pride to the nation.

Kapeya further states that the victory by the two clubs is also a timely gift from the youths to the people of Zambia as the country celebrates Youth Day this Wednesday, 12th March, 2014.

He also states that the string of victories recorded in the past one week by the Zambian football teams further serves as a huge morale booster to the Zambia Under-17 women’s national soccer team as it embarks on the 2014 World Cup Finals that kick off this Saturday in Costa Rica.
