Sean Tembo charged with Defamation of President

Opposition Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) leader Sean Tembo has been charged with the offense of Defamation of President.

The offense is contrary to Section 69 Chapter 87 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr. Tembo, who has spent 2 days in Police custody before being charged, is reported to have posted on social media a statement in which he claimed that President Edgar Lungu suffers from a mental illness.

Acting police spokesperson Danny Mwale has disclosed in a statement to Q-News that Mr. Tembo was charged on Monday afternoon.

Mr. Mwale says the PeP leader will however remain in police custody until he appears in Court on Tuesday.
