ZCTU implores unions to explain Article 31 to workers

Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) Secretary General Cosmas Mukuka has urged union leaders to take up the responsibility of explaining to their members what the invocation of Article 31 means and entails.

Mr. Mukuka has told Q-News that the responsibility of educating the public and workers on Article 31 should not be left to government and the media alone, but should be taken up by leaders of various unions, institutions and other groupings.

He has noted that with the poor reading culture among Zambians, there is need for the public to be explained to what is required of them during the 90 day period the declaration of the threatened state of emergency will be in force.

Mr Mukuka states that if not handled well the threatened state of emergency might result in low productivity by workers who may end up missing work.
