Don’t be discouraged, Govt tells farmers

Shawa PSMinistry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary Julius Shawa says government is enhancing interventions aimed at providing a market for soya beans and rice at local, regional and international level.

Mr. Shawa tells Q-News in an interview that government is aware of the challenges that farmers who grow crops such as soya beans and rice face in accessing the market to sell their produce.

Mr. Shawa has noted that there has been a tremendous increase in soya beans production in the country and therefore the need for a market to be provided for the crop.

Meanwhile Mr. Shawa has encouraged farmers not to be discouraged by the maize price being offered by the Food Reserve Agency.

He has advised farmers in far-flung areas to grab the opportunity to sell to their maize to the FRA which is prioritizing buying maize from framers in remote areas as a way of providing a market for them.
